BEIJING, Feb. 23 -- A man in Changsha, Hunan province, learned the hard way that it's not a good idea to break the law while he's sleepy.

After gathering cable wires from a construction site, the man waited for the right time to escape, but fell asleep.

The thief, surnamed Wang, spent four hours stealing the cable with a knife and became exhausted.

Wang came from Jiangxi province and was unable to find a job so he decided to steal.

The People's Procuratorate of Kaifu district in Changsha formally brought Wang to court for theft on Tuesday.
