KATHMANDU, Feb. 10 (Chinese media) -- Nepali officials said that bird flu has been fully under control in the country due to the effective performance of the rapid response teams deployed for the task, The Himalayan Times reported on Tuesday.
The Nepali government confirmed the outbreak of bird flu virus in the eastern district of Jhapa and issued a bird flu alert in the area on Jan. 16.
According to the daily, Jhapa district, which saw the avian flu outbreak, is under a three-month observation.
Manas Kumar Banerjee, coordinator and director of Avian Influenza Control Project at the Department of Health Services, said on Monday that not a single case of bird flu has been diagnosed in humans even though three persons were kept under observation for a week on suspicion of contracting the deadly flu.
Banerjee said the country is well prepared to contain any possible outbreak of bird flu.
Prabhakar Pathak, director of Department of Livestock Services, said that about 24,000 chickens, 300 pigeons, 400 ducks, and other birds were culled to contain the outbreak.
He said 109 samples had been collected for tests.
