HONG KONG, Feb. 26 (Chinese media) -- Eight Hong Kong tertiary institutions'
canteens and a local green group will jointly launch a "less rice" campaign next
month, according to local media on Thursday.
Starting from March, every Wednesday, students of the participated
institutes will get a one-HK-dollar (about 0.12 US dollar) discount if they ask
for less rice, the South China Morning Post reported on Thursday.
The move aimed at encouraging people to ask for less rice. Involving
parties expressed hope that it would become a common act in the city, which will
in turn help reducing food waste.
The campaign was started last December among primary schools. Now, more
than 160 restaurants including some major chains are offering "less rice" deals
on the first Wednesday of every month.
