SINGAPORE, March 4 (Chinese media) -- A medical center aiming to increase the cure rate of childhood leukemia officially opened here on Wednesday, local media reported.
According to TV broadcaster Channelnewsasia, the Viva-University Children's Cancer Center, located in Singapore's National University Hospital, aims to increase the cure rate of childhood leukemia in Singapore from 80 to 90 percent.
The report said the center has received a donation of 12 million Singapore dollars (about 7.7 million U.S. dollars) from the Goh Foundation supported by the Singapore government.
The money will be used in expertise training, research in bone marrow transplant, childhood leukemia, bone cancer and post therapy effects, said the report.
Every year, some 140 children get cancer in Singapore, and four in ten suffer from leukemia.
