New Zealand to consider lower drink-drive limit for motorists

WELLINGTON, Jan. 7 (Chinese media) -- New Zealand Transport Minister Steven Joyce said on Wednesday that the government will consider lowering the blood-alcohol limit as part of a road safety strategy.

Joyce said that the idea is one option up for consideration as officials develop a 10-year plan to take effect next year.

He said the proposal will be examined, though it is likely tougher blood-alcohol limits will be just part of the solution.

The public will be asked for feedback in April or May.

Alcohol Health Watch said New Zealand's alcohol limit of 80 milligrams for every liter of blood is unsafe for drivers.

Drivers cannot concentrate enough to drive safely with that much alcohol in their system, the Alcohol Health Watch said.
